Carlos Famadas

Chairman

Harvard University ’99

Carlos Famadas serves as President of The 1931 Foundation.  He is a finance and operations executive working with startups and professional services firms. Carlos currently serves as CFO for Yottaa, Inc. in Waltham, MA and has experience in managing teams, organizational growth and establishing systems and processes for organizations.  Carlos has been a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity since 1996 and served the fraternity for over 13 years as Treasurer, Executive Director (2004-2008) and Chairman of the Board (2008 – 2014). Carlos holds an A.B. in Economics and an MBA from Harvard University ’03.​

Dr. Dennis Camacho

Treasurer

Hofstra University ’95

Most recently he has been the Chief Academic Officer at Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, MA and an Affiliate Consultant for CREDO Higher Education Consulting Group Inc. Since 2006, Camacho has been a department/division head for various facets of campus life. He has obtained direct experience and guided many staff members in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs areas.  Throughout his career, he has been an adjunct professor for math and higher education administration programs.  Dr. Camacho has presented for over fifteen years at the annual and regional conferences of the Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA), National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA), the American College Student Personnel Association (ACPA) and the National Orientation Director’s Association (NODA).  In 2007, he received the Community Advancement Service Award from the Latin@ Network, Standing Committee for Multicultural Affairs, and American College Personnel Association ACPA at the joint ACPA/NASPA conference in Orlando, FL. Dr. Dennis Camacho earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Hofstra University in 1995.  Dr. Camacho did his graduate work at Teachers College, Columbia University earning dual Master’s Degrees in Secondary Math Education in 1997 and Higher Education Administration in 1999. He completed Northeastern University’s Doctor of Education program through the College of Professional Studies. 

Dr. Francisco Lugo

University of Dayton ’04

Secretary

Francisco Lugo serves as the Secretary of The 1931 Foundation. Francisco has been in the field of higher education since 2007. He has over seven years of experience in Student Activities and over fifteen years of experience in Fraternity & Sorority Life. Francisco currently serves as the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at Georgia Southern University. Francisco has been a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity since 2003 and served the fraternity for over 15 years, nine of which he served as the Executive Director (2010-2019). Francisco holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Communication and a Master of Science in Education in College Student Personnel from the University of Dayton and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of New England. 

Adam J. Ortiz

SUNY Albany ’90

Board Member

Adam J. Ortiz serves as a Board Member of The 1931 Foundation.  Adam currently serves as the Operations Administrator for the Advanced Energy Center at Stony Brook University.  He has been a member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity since 1988 and has served the fraternity for over 30 years in various capacities such as serving as the first National Secretary General.  He founded the first collegiate recognized Latino Greek Council at the University at Albany on June 5th 1991.  Adam holds a MSW in Social Work from University at Albany ’93, MS in Management and Technology Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ’98 and MS in Technological Systems Management with a Graduate Certificate in Educational Computing from Stony Brook University ’07.

Chris Gale

Grand Valley State University ’12

Board Member

Chris Gale is a public service professional with varied experience in both the nonprofit and government sectors. He currently serves as Center Director and Chief Programs Officer for North10, Philadelphia, which he joined in 2019. With a special passion for families and young people who are affected by systemic poverty, Chris works tirelessly to help empower the adults and youth in ommunities of color through education and human services to ensure that they have the tools they need to prepare for success throughout their lives. Before joining North10, he served as the Deputy Director for Community Schools in the Mayor’s Office of Education, City of Philadelphia. Chris also served as Administrator for Casa del Carmen, which is part of Catholic Social Services. Chris has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Villanova University (2014) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration/Nonprofit Management from Grand Valley State University (2012).

Jason Nicolau

New York University ’03

Board Member

Jason Nicolau has had a diversity of professional experiences in multiple sectors and industries with at least 15 years of directly managing staff, program management, relationship management, developing and analyzing organizational metrics, budget planning and analysis, student access and grant management experience.  Jason is currently the Senior Director, Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) at NYU, a New York State grant-funded program in collaboration with NYU designed to admit and assist 575 New York State low-income students reach their full potential. 

Jason has previously worked as an Associate Director of Community Relations at PowerMyLearning, Market Development representative at FedEx Services, Senior Operations Analyst at Dental Recycling North America, and Executive Director of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity. Jason completed his B.S. in Management and Organizational Analysis and Information Systems at the Stern School of Business at NYU and his Masters in Public Administration from the Marxe School of Public Affairs at Baruch College.

Raul de la Rosa

Marist College ’96

Board Member

Bro. De la Rosa currently serves as Vice President of Sales for NBCUniversal in Philadelphia, leading all sales and marketing efforts for NBC, Telemundo and NBC sports. In addition, Raul sits on a variety of local boards including the PAL Police Athletic League of Philadelphia, DDV Dominicanos in the Delaware Valley, and Emprendedores (Local organization helping young children achieve dreams of working in the media field). Raul completed his B.A. in Communications from Marist College and MBA from Metropolitan College.
