FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

New York, New York | December 26, 2022

We are pleased to announce the establishment of the Joseph Matos Scholarship. The new scholarship will be award to undergraduate or graduate members of Phi Iota Alpha who are studying in a STEM-related field and have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

The scholarship is named in honor of Joseph Matos, a key figure in the re-founding of Phi Iota Alpha and a pioneer in the field of engineering. Mr. Matos, who was a long-time member and supporter of Phi Iota Alpha, gathered the group of Latino males who ultimately became the re-founders of the fraternity during the Spring 1984 semester at RPI. Through his efforts and forward-thinking, the fraternity was re-established, paving the way for its growth. Joe currently serves as the Regional Director for Latin America at Siemens Energy and holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and a Master of Business Administration from Florida Institute of Technology.

We are excited to offer this opportunity to continue to support the academic and professional development of Phi Iota Alpha members through The 1931 Foundation and look forward to receiving applications from qualified candidates starting spring 2023.
